Get Hooked – Protect Yourself And Your Identity
The internet isn't the only place thieves will try to use for stealing someone's identity. Be prepared and take precautions to guard your personal information.
- Spoofing, spamming, phishing - new terms come out daily. Wherever you are required to provide personal, sensitive information, be aware of your surroundings and who you are providing the information to.
- Get a copy of your credit report once a year and verify the information contained in it. You may address discrepancies with the reporting bureau accordingly. Visit one of the following: experian.com,equifax.com, or transunion.com to get your report(s). Fees may apply.
- Sign up for our AlertMe® - for an added level of security, be advised when anyone accesses your credit information. Fees apply, see site for details.
- Before revealing any personal information, be sure you know who you are dealing with, how they will use your information and whether it will be shared with any other parties. Refer to your BFCU Privacy Policy for information on how your information is protected by us.
- Make sure you keep your security up to date on your computer(s). Limit accessing your personal information from public computers to emergency use only.
- Make sure the sites you visit have a padlock which identifies SSL security is in place
Please be advised, Brockport Federal Credit Union will never contact you via email asking for personal information. If you receive a suspicious email, please contact us immediately at (585) 637-9179. If you receive a phone call & you are not sure it is from the credit union, please ask the person their name and ask them if you can call them back at our regular number.
